First and Second Grade students learned and practiced the trait of empathy. They watched and discussed a short video about a four-year-old who felt empathy for the homeless. The students colored and passed around cards with kind messages. We also played a kind challenge game. In the game, students are encouraged to participate in their challenge to the best of their abilities. Challenges included things like, helping parents with chores, taking treats to a police station, offer to help a friend in need, calling someone you have not spoken to and remind them how much they are loved.
